GENERIC ZOCOR
My
doctor/pharmacist says that there is no generic for Zocor. How can you
have one?
Your
doctor/pharmacist is correct. What we are selling is the Indian brand
name version of Zocor sold in the Indian market and exported to many
areas of the world including Asia, South America, Africa and the Middle
East.
Who
makes your Generic Zocor?
The Generic
Zocor we sell is called Simcard and is made by Cipla.
What
is the difference between the brand name Zocor I buy and the generic
you are offering?
The only difference
is the name of the product, the look of the pill, and of course the
price is a lot lower. The brand name and generic are 100% chemically
identical and the quality is identical as well.
Can
you tell me about Cipla?
Cipla Pharmaceuticals
develops, manufactures and markets finished products, active pharmaceutical
ingredients and intermediates. Cipla's revenue in FY2003-04 was about
$350 million U.S. Dollars. Cipla's plants have been approved by the
U.S. Food & Drug Administration, the U.K. Medicines Control Agency,
Australian
TGA, South African SAMMDRA, Hungarian NIP, German PIC, WHO, Slovak SI
and Brazilian ANVISA.
Why
isn't Simcard sold in the U.S. or in my area of the world?
Zocor is made by and patented by Merck. Cipla is able to reproduce Zocor
because Indian patent laws protect only the process, not the product.
This means that if a company in India finds another way to make the
same chemical, it is can legally produce it, but cannot commerically
send it to the U.S. until Merck's patent expires. As a consumer,
you can legally import Simcard as it is not for commercial use but for
your personal use.
